How do I know whether I have an App Wallet (software wallet)?
Because the DCENT app manages Biometric, Card, and App Wallets all in one place, it can be hard to tell them apart from the screen alone. Use these three methods to check.
1. Fastest way — the Manage All Wallets list
In the DCENT app, open Manage All Wallets from the Settings tab or the My Wallet tab. Registered wallets are shown in three groups: Biometric Wallets / Card Wallets / App Wallets. If there is a wallet in the "App Wallets" group, that is an App Wallet. The wallet you are currently using is marked "Selected."
2. Definitive way — the more (⋮) menu
Tap more (⋮) next to a wallet in the list; the menu differs by wallet type.
| Wallet type | What appears in the more (⋮) menu |
|---|---|
| App Wallet | App Wallet Info · App Wallet Backup · Delete App Wallet |
| Biometric · DCENT X | Device Info · Firmware Update · Delete Device |
| Card Wallet | Card Info · Change Card PIN · R3covery · Reset Card · Delete Card |
If you see "Firmware Update" or "Device Info," it is a hardware wallet; if you see "App Wallet Backup," it is an App Wallet. The recovery phrase is stored on the phone, so the backup is done in the app.
You do not need to open the "App Wallet Backup" menu and view your recovery phrase just to check. Looking at the menu name is enough.
3. Differences that show up in everyday use
| Look at | App Wallet | Hardware wallet |
|---|---|---|
| Sending assets | Completed with just the 6-digit app password (or the phone's biometrics) | Connect the device via Bluetooth and approve with fingerprint/device PIN, or tag the card to the phone |
| Without the device | Works with the phone alone | Cannot send anything without the device or card |
| Backup prompt | The app shows a "Back up your 24-word recovery phrase" banner | The recovery phrase is shown only on the device screen (once, at setup, for cards); no banner in the app |
The simplest rule is whether a physical device is needed to send. If a transfer completes with the phone alone, the private key is on the phone — and that is an App Wallet.
4. Hardware wallet assets show in the app — so is it an App Wallet?
No. The app is only a display and operation screen; the private key is inside the device. The only criterion is whether that wallet's recovery phrase has ever been entered into an App Wallet. If not, you are not a direct target of this notice; if so, you are.
