What is the Destination Tag or Memo?
Ripple (XRP) and Stellar Lumens (XLM) use a system where exchanges manage user assets under a single shared address.
To differentiate between users, exchanges assign a Destination Tag (for XRP) or Memo (for XLM) to each account.
[Important When Sending to an Exchange]
- When sending XRP or XLM to an exchange, you must enter the correct Destination Tag or Memo assigned to you by the exchange.
- You can find this information in your exchange account’s deposit screen.
[What Happens If You Send Without Entering It?]
If you send XRP or XLM without entering the Destination Tag or Memo:
- Your deposit may be delayed or lost
- You will need to contact the exchange’s support team with your TXID (transaction hash) to request manual deposit processing
[Notes for Receiving XRP/XLM in D'CENT Wallet]
- XRP and XLM addresses created in the D'CENT Wallet do not require a Destination Tag or Memo.
- So when receiving XRP or XLM into your D'CENT Wallet, you do not need to enter any tag or memo.
- If some exchanges require a tag or memo to be entered, the transaction can still be completed by entering any arbitrary number.
