About the DCENT X PIN (initial PIN, forgotten PIN, entry issues)

[What is the initial PIN for DCENT X?]​

DCENT X does not have a preset default (initial) PIN. During the first setup you create your own 4 to 8 digit PIN.

Notes

  • If you enter the wrong PIN 10 times in a row, the device resets itself automatically.
  • The device PIN (4-8 digits), the R3covery Card PIN (6 digits) and the DCENT app lock password are all different values. Please do not confuse them.

[I forgot my PIN (authentication number).]​

The DCENT X PIN is the 4 to 8 digit numeric password you registered during the initial setup. DCENT cannot look it up or reset it for you.

If you lose your PIN

  • After 5 failed fingerprint attempts, the device switches to PIN authentication automatically.
  • You can enter the PIN up to 10 times. If every attempt fails, the device resets itself.
  • After a reset, every key stored on the device is deleted.

Waiting time after failed attempts

From the 5th attempt onward a waiting time applies, and while you wait the device shows "Available in N seconds". Even if it looks as though input has suddenly stopped working, this is not a malfunction - simply wait for the time shown and try again.

  • Attempts 1-4 : only the remaining count is shown; you can retry immediately.
  • Attempts 5-6 : 5 seconds wait
  • Attempts 7-8 : 30 seconds wait
  • Attempt 9 : 60 seconds wait
  • Attempt 10 : the device resets itself.

Cautions

  • To recover your assets you must restore the wallet with the R3covery Card or the 24 recovery words (mnemonic code) you backed up.
  • During the restore you register a new PIN and new fingerprints; the PIN and fingerprints you used before are not carried over.
  • The device PIN (4-8 digits) and the R3covery Card PIN (6 digits) are different values, and both differ from the DCENT app lock password.

[I entered the PIN twice but a “PIN mismatch” screen appears.]​

When you set a PIN you enter the same PIN twice so the device can confirm they match. If the two values differ, the “PIN mismatch” screen appears.

What to do

  • Tap “Set PIN again” and enter it from the beginning.
  • Even one different digit in the second entry counts as a mismatch. Please enter it slowly.

Note

  • On the screen where you register your PIN during the initial setup, the digits are always laid out in sequence (1-9, 0). This has nothing to do with the Random PIN Pad setting.

[The digits are in a different position every time I enter my PIN.]​

This means the “Random PIN Pad” option is turned on. It is not a malfunction - it is a security feature that prevents shoulder surfing, where someone nearby watches you enter your PIN.

How it works

  • ON : the digits are shuffled once each time you open the PIN entry screen. They are not shuffled again while you are entering the digits.
  • OFF : the digits are always shown in the standard sequential layout (1-9, 0).

How to change the setting

  • You can turn it on or off under Settings > Security > Random PIN Pad.

Notes

  • The R3covery Card PIN entry screen follows this setting as well. If you turn the Random PIN Pad off, the R3covery PIN screen is also shown in the sequential layout.
  • The screen where you register your PIN during the initial setup is always sequential, regardless of this setting.
