About DCENT X passphrase (25th word) wallets
[Does DCENT X support a 25th word (passphrase)?]
Yes. On DCENT X this feature is called a "passphrase wallet". It is an entirely new wallet created by combining your existing mnemonic code with an extra phrase. Even with the same mnemonic, a different passphrase produces a separate wallet with different wallet addresses.
Two types
- Passphrase wallet (permanent) : stored in a dedicated slot, so it remains after you power the device off.
- One-Time passphrase wallet : not stored on the device, so it returns to the default wallet once you power off.
Good to know
- It is not configured during the initial setup. You set it up later under Settings > Wallet Management.
- You can enter up to 100 characters. The passphrase is case sensitive and distinguishes numbers and symbols, and a trailing space is part of the value.
- When you restore the wallet you must set the same passphrase again to reach the same accounts.
Cautions
- Setting a permanent passphrase creates an entirely new wallet. If your existing wallet holds assets, move them to another address first.
- If you forget the passphrase, that wallet can never be accessed again.

[Can I switch to a passphrase wallet?]
Yes. You can move back and forth between the default wallet and a passphrase wallet on a single device. There is no need to create or restore a wallet again - you switch directly from the menu.
How to switch
- Control Center : swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Control Center and tap the passphrase wallet button.
- Settings menu : switch from Settings > Wallet Management > Switch to passphrase wallet.
Notes
- Every switch requires PIN authentication. You cannot switch with a fingerprint.
- On the device, fingerprint authentication is used in only two places: unlocking and signing transactions. Entering settings menus - switching wallets, resetting the device, viewing the mnemonic, managing the R3covery Card and so on - always requires the PIN.
- You can tell which wallet you are in from the icon in the main screen header.
- The account list looks the same. However the wallet addresses are different, because this is a separate, new wallet. It does not share the balance of the wallet created from the mnemonic alone.
- Switching briefly disconnects and then reconnects Bluetooth. This is normal behavior that prevents the app from continuing to show the previous wallet's information.
- If you have not set up a passphrase wallet yet, you are taken to the setup guide screen instead.

[My balance disappeared after switching to a passphrase wallet.]
This is normal behavior. A passphrase wallet is an entirely new wallet created by combining your existing mnemonic code with an extra phrase.
The account list is shown exactly as in the default wallet, but the wallet addresses are different. Because it is a separate wallet, it does not share the balance of the wallet created from the mnemonic alone. The assets in your default wallet are untouched, and you can see them again by switching back to the default wallet.
How to check
- Use the icon in the main screen header to tell which wallet you are currently in.
- To go back to the default wallet, select Settings > Wallet Management > “Switch to default wallet”. Every switch requires PIN authentication, and you cannot switch with a fingerprint.
Cautions
- Even with the same mnemonic, a different passphrase creates a completely different wallet. It must match exactly, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols as well as any trailing space, for you to reach the same wallet.
- If you forget the passphrase, that wallet can never be accessed again.

[My One-Time passphrase wallet disappeared after I powered the device off and on.]
This is normal behavior. A One-Time passphrase wallet is not stored on the device - it only exists while the device is powered on.
Difference from the permanent wallet
- Passphrase wallet (permanent) : stored in a dedicated slot, so it remains after you power the device off.
- One-Time passphrase wallet : not stored, so it returns to the default wallet when you power off.
What to do
- To open the same wallet again, enter the same phrase under Settings > Wallet Management > One-Time passphrase wallet.
- The same applies when the device is powered off by Auto Power Off or a hardware reset - it returns to the default wallet.
- If you need a wallet that persists, please use a permanent passphrase wallet.
Caution
If you forget the phrase, that wallet can never be accessed again.
