Recovery Words (Mnemonic) Are Not Found or Shown as Invalid

D’CENT Wallet generates a set of 24 recovery words (mnemonic code) by randomly selecting them from a standardized list of 2,048 English words defined by the BIP39 protocol.

This means all words shown on the screen are generated according to the BIP39 standard, so there is no possibility of an incorrect or non‑listed word being displayed.

[When Recovery Words Don’t Appear in the List]

When verifying or restoring a wallet on a Biometric Wallet, you’ll be asked to enter the first three characters of each word written on your Recovery Sheet.

Once entered, the device will display a list of matching BIP39 words. You must manually select the correct word from the list.

If there are many similar words starting with the same three characters, your intended word may appear further down the list; in that case:

  • Use the Down (∨) button on the device to scroll down through the list.
  • When the correct word appears, press OK button to select it.

[If You See a Message Saying “Word Doesn’t Match”]

1. Check spelling carefully.

All BIP39 recovery words are written in lowercase English characters. It’s easy to confuse similar-looking characters such as:

u / v , l / ih / n / m

2. Even if the spelling looks correct, the word may be a similar word that is not included in the BIP39 standard word list.

You can review the full list of all 2,048 valid words via the official BIP39 repository below:

3. Make sure words are in the correct order.

Words must be entered in the exact same order as originally shown when the wallet was created.
Any shift in order may cause a mismatch error.

[Important Notes]

  • On a Biometric Wallet, the recovery words are displayed only once during initial setup.
After that, they are never shown again and cannot be retrieved from the device.
  • Therefore, you must write down all 24 words accurately, in the correct order, on the provided Recovery Sheet and store it securely.
  • D’CENT is a non-custodial wallet, meaning your recovery words and private keys are never stored on any server.
  • If your recovery words are lost or do not match, there is no way to recover your wallet, even with assistance from the D’CENT team.
