The same word appears more than once in my recovery words(mnemonic code). Is this normal?

When writing down your recovery phrase (mnemonic code), you may see the same word appear two or more times.

This is not a wallet setup error. It is a normal behavior that can occur under the BIP39 standard.

[Why the same word can appear more than once]

The recovery words used in the D’CENT wallet are generated in an offline environment within the secure chip of the biometric wallet.

It is created by randomly selecting 24 words from the 2,048 word English wordlist defined by the BIP39 standard.

Because the words are selected randomly, the probability is very low, but it is possible for the same word to appear more than once.

(Example: The 1st word is 'apple', and the 20th word is also 'apple')

[Is this a security issue?]

  • A recovery phrase works as a master key based on the complete combination of all 24 words.
  • Even if some words are duplicated, the probability that the entire 24-word combination matches another user’s recovery phrase is extremely low.
  • In other words, even if some words are repeated, it is virtually impossible for another user to have the exact same recovery phrase.

Therefore, duplicated words are not a security issue, and as long as you write down all 24 words in the correct order and spelling, they are safe to use.

[Important Notes on Managing Your Recovery Words]

  • Do not store your recovery words digitally (e.g., photos, cloud storage, messenger apps, or note-taking apps).
  • Use the included Recovery Sheet to write down all 24 words in the correct order without omission.
  • Store it in a safe place protected from water, fire, and theft.
  • If your recovery words are lost or exposed, D’CENT cannot help you recover them.
